Dear Readers,

Thank you for your continued support of Business Review at Berkeley. As a publication that focuses on original, objective investigative journalism, we pride ourselves on staying nonpartisan in our reporting. However, during these times of turmoil and exposing of racial injustices existing within American institutions and systems, it is crucial to define nonpartisanship in journalism. We integrate, elucidate, and report information throughout our investigative process. But endeavouring to be nonpartisan should not lead to a wilful ignorance of facts, in favour of neutrality. Racial justice should not be a partisan issue.

Therefore, with confidence, we at Business Review at Berkeley announce that we stand in solidarity with the Black community against policy brutality and other forms of systemic discrimination. We are currently working on creating a donation matching program with a corporate sponsor to help fund nonprofits working towards racial equity, in hopes to present tangible support for the movement. Going forward, we will make sure to keep in mind that the stories we investigate and report on happen in a world with much racial disparity; we will do our utmost to identify systemic racial injustice when it is happening, and address it in our writing.

As a club of only two years, it is true that we personally have much to reflect and improve on. With a large majority of our members being Asian, and without much representation of BIPOC communities in our membership, we have a lack of diversity. We are working towards becoming a more inclusive and diverse club, while making sure we do not subscribe to tokenism. Please stay tuned as we make it happen.

Thank you for reading to this point. If you would like to learn more about the fight to end racial injustice, check out the NAACP, Color of Change and Black Lives Matter websites.

Sincerely,

The Business Review at Berkeley Team
